THE WORK EXPERIENCE EDUCATION PROGRAM at Palisades Charter High School is coordinated by Mr. Santana in the Career Center - room J109.  The students are required to meet during their designated Work Experience class, either period 5 OR 6, every Tuesday OR Wednesday, in room J109.  The first meeting of the Fall semester will be September 9, 2009  It is very important that all students enrolled in Work Experience Education attend the first class meeting.

PURPOSE - Work Experience Education is an instructional course, which has as its purpose to provide students with opportunities for applying the basic skills of reading, writing, and computation to a work environment.  This involves a combination of supervised employment in an approved occupational field and related classroom instruction. The WEE program uses the integrated efforts of teachers, counselors, students, parents, and employers to achieve the following purposes:

*To link the academic core curriculum with the world of work.

*To assist students in becoming aware of the value of education, and discover a need for career exploration.

*To assist students in selecting careers and preparing realistically and wisely for the world of work.

*To help students learn to effectively balance school, employment, social, and family life.

*To motivate students to acquire money-management skills, and be knowledgeable about credit, taxes, and social security.

*Help students develop decision-making skills, communication skills, and attitudes conducive to personal growth.

ATTENDANCE:  It is very important that all students enrolled in the Work Experience Education Program are in attendance at every class meeting.  Missing more than 4 meetings could constitute a fail for the program.

HOMEWORK AND TIME SHEETS:  All Work Experience Education students are responsible for turning in their homework and time sheets on or before the day they are due in the Work Experience Education Box, located in the Career Center.

REQUIRED WORK HOURS:  All students are responsible for tracking their work hours during the semester. If a student thinks that they will not reach the required hours to receive credit for the class, they should contact Mr. Santana before the semester ends to discuss any options they might have. Failure to reach the required hours could result in a failing grade for the program.
